Kanika is a New York City-based clinical social worker and therapist who has worked with and supported individuals, children, couples, and families for the past 20 years. After receiving a BA from New York University, Kanika studied Early Childhood Education at Bank Street College where she received an MsED. She worked as an educator for over 10 years before returning to school to receive a second Masters’ degree in clinical social work from the Columbia University School of Social Work. After graduation, Kanika worked toward her clinical license while supervised at Resilient Mind Psychotherapy and the Association to Benefit Children. Kanika practices clinical social work and somatic psychotherapy privately and continues to work at The Association to Benefit Children.
Kanika discovered Focalization in 2021 and immediately recognized the transformational power of this gentle, yet highly effective, somatic therapeutic technique. Kanika became a Certified Practitioner of Focalization (CFP) through training with Nick Werber, one of the leading practitioners of Focalizing in the world. She immediately began integrating Focalization into her own life and work - and the results have been profound.
In 2023, Kanika began to study Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF), another somatic-based technique based on Focusing (a technique similar to Focalizing) and Internal Family Systems. In IRF, clients are guided through the body to identify and hold with care the many parts that make up our whole system and which often drive our behaviors. Like Focalizing, IRF is a way to gently process blocks and is a process for learning more about oneself. It, too, can be a highly spiritual experience.
In her personal life, Kanika regularly practices mindfulness, meditation, and intention-setting which she incorporates into her work with clients. Kanika hopes to support you in your journey, in finding your wholeness and in your personal evolution, by practicing a range of somatic and psychotherapeutic techniques with you.
